Welcome to the GANCOM FTP Site!
This site is essentially a set of folders located on our Web server that can be accessed by anyone with Internet access. It is a good resource when transferring large files – in general, files larger than 1 MB.
The address for the FTP site is ftp://ftp.gfnet.com. Please note -- when you log in to the FTP site, do NOT check the box next to “Save Password.”
Setting up a Private Folder on the FTP Site
If you are interested in setting up your own private folder on our FTP site, please contact Jim Marshall at (717) 763-7211, ext. 2149, or via e-mail.
He will contact our internet specialist to set up your account and then contact you with your username, password, and detailed instructions.
Placing Files on the FTP Site
When placing a file(s) on the FTP site, please name the file in a descriptive manner; e.g., try to include the name of your project, rather than name it with a generic, non-descriptive title. Please also do not use any special characters when naming your file – use only letters and numbers – and make sure to save the correct extension for your document type (e.g., “.doc” for WORD, “.xls” for EXCEL, etc.).
Once you have a file(s) placed on the FTP site, please notify Jim via e-mail or phone that the file is there and what you named it.
Zipping Large Files
If you have an especially large file to place on the FTP site, you might want to consider zipping it. This can save upload and download time.
Helpful Hints
Internet Explorer® Settings for FTP
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab. In the section titled "Browsing," check the box for "Enable folder view for FTP sites."
Scroll down and check the box for "Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)." (This will be the second option ABOVE the section for "HTTP 1.1 settings.")
No logon prompt?
CAUSE: You must have saved a username and password for this site on a previous visit.
RESOLUTION: Click the File menu and select "Login As" -- you will now have a logon prompt.
If the FTP site will not accept your username and password, it could be that Internet Explorer is sending corrupted login information, which had been saved during a previous logon, regardless of what you are entering. The only way to fix this is to have your technical support representative edit the Windows Registry for this problem.
With Questions
We have set up our FTP site to be as user-friendly as possible, however, if you are having any trouble accessing this site, please notify Jim immediately. He will contact our internet specialist to resolve any problems that you might be having.
Thank you!
